Oregon's Ocean: Local Legacy and Global Goals

Dr. Kirsten Grorud-Colvert

OSU, Ph.D., Marine Biology and Fisheries

What happens when an area of the ocean comes under the protection of an ocean preserve? Are fisheries ruined or enhanced? Is the cost too high? Dr. Grorud-Colvert studies Oregon’s ocean, both undersea and above the waves, to inform marine reserve planning around the world, work that is essential to understanding the ecology of marine communities, their survival potential under the changing climate, and the needs of the 870 million people that depend on the ocean for food.
